. Senseless

Brush my teeth by the candlelight/ Gold Jeeps fly through my mind,
An abstract thought keeps me in my life/ This is my paradise,
This song is ridiculous/ It makes no sense,
Sorry to waste your time/ At least this rhymes,

Chorus:
Brush my teeth with mud/ You can floss them out,
Moss covers your heart/ Cold stone will do that,
Ah-- Everything is a pop quiz, oh oh oh oh
Ah-- The one the punk always flunks, oh oh oh oh

In order to flee the rut please listen up,
My ideas come at the weirdest times,
Like when I brush my teeth by the candlelight,
As I'm thinking of words to write,

Bridge:
So let’s take a stand,
It doesn’t matter what for,
As long as we become the cool guys in the school.

Two years ago there was a power outage across town when a squirrel supposedly fried in a major transformer. As a result, many people were required to complete their daily chores without the luxury of electricity. While restlessly sitting in 6th hour Algebra II, Alex overheard a conversation between two classmates (To give credit where credit is due, the classmates were Hannah Stringer and Bethany Overstake). Ms Stringer told the story of how she was forced to brush her teeth by the candlelight before racing to school in a bronze-colored blazer. The rest of the song has nothing to do with that story.

Senseless first appeared on 2001's Wing It.  The original tune was a relatively mild song punctuated by sharp bursts of distorted guitars and vocals.  Derek hammered out a funky little bass line that gave the song more of a pop feel than anything else.

It was decided later that Senseless would be rerecorded for Start The Reactor!  Daniel took over bass duties giving Derek a chance to shine on guitar.  The song gradually picked up speed and volume to become the heavy-punk song that it is now.  The lyrics still make no sense, but it's a fun tune to play live.
